Learning at a famous international College

The College's heritage dates from 1894 when the School was located near Fleet Street in the heart of London's publishing and printing district and still home to St Bride Printing Library. We have been at the forefront of publishing vocational education courses for graduates since 1969. We continue to make our graduate courses as relevant today as when we pioneered 40 years ago the first postgraduate certificate in printing and publishing at the Elephant and Castle campus. Our Publishing Master's was introduced in 1999 and is now located within the leading Faculty of Media. With digital covergence the course is constantly updated in the light of  the dynamic changes facing the industry within the Internet and global digital network economy.

Master of Arts Publishing and Pathways

For dedicated and practical professional study our Publishing Master's at the LCC in London offers a choice of publishing pathways. You can choose to study Book or Magazine publishing. Both pathways include holistic learning of how to commission, market, produce and distribute editorial content across multiple platforms and devices - print, online and mobile.

Each pathway concentrates on the individual needs and challenges of book and magazine publishing. Your teaching and learning will be focused on your choice of pathway study. Both pathways offer opportunities for book and magazine students to work collaboratively on joint projects and attend the separate industry speakers' programmes. On successful completion of the course you will have accumulated the full 180 learning credits and will be awarded by the University of the Arts London with world-class MA Publishing qualification.

Postgraduate Diploma

Should you have  successfully completed two out of the three phases, but do not proceed, or do not successfully complete the third phase, the major project (dissertation) of the MA, you will have nevertheless gained the required number of learning credits, 120 credits, and will be awarded by the University of the Arts London with the esteemed Postgraduate Diploma Publishing qualification.

Course Period

The MA Publishing at London College of Communication runs for 12 months from the end of September beginning every year. The PG Diploma Publishing accounts for only two thirds of the MA and runs to early May.

Teaching Timetable

As our MA Publishing is a demanding and high quality one year full-time course the lectures and teaching are scheduled weekly during Phase 1 and Phase 2 from Wednesday to Friday, excluding the University's term breaks.  This timetable allows for a real depth and breath of study across all of the functions and knowledge base that makes up this challenging multidisciplinary Master's. The timetable also allows generous time to attend each industry guest speakers' programme by pathway and to work within your study group to complete stretching projects. In addition, the timetable enables you to attend in our studios two skills-based training sessions for the development of publishing design layout skills and web publishing skills.  This timetable allows you to have free time on Monday and Tuesday for work experience assignments, or for researching assignments for assessment.  Over the summer months in Phase 3 you work independently with guidance from your academic supervisor  to research, complete and write up your major project, which is an extensive dissertation of a publishing topic you have chosen.
