Cross-college elective courses for postgraduate studies
Within Phase 2 you can choose to study two electives from the portfolio of LCC cross-college electives put on for postgraduates in the spring term, or study elective units developed by the course team. Electives provide variety to your learning. Electives are short courses run by specialists who add a richness outside of the main course subjects and teaching team.
The list of electives may change from year to year in order to keep them relevant. Examples of some electives from which you can pick two choices include:
- Enterprise Planning
- Managing Print Suppliers in Publishing
- Work-Based Learning (to Placement)
- Creative Writing for the Communication Industries
- Fashion and Style Magazine Publishing
- Academic Journal Publishing
- Information Architecture and Knowledge Management

New Creative Ventures Elective
The Centre for Creative Business, a joint creative industries postgraduate education partnership between the University of the Arts London and the London Business School, runs this elective. The elective is open to students from both institutions and is limited to 25 students from each university. Selection is on an open competitive basis and normally one or two students from the MA Publishing course join this elective every year.
The elective explores how entrepreneurs identify and analyse the commercial feasibility of creative ideas, develop products or services and take these to market. This is done by weekly case studies and a collaborative group project. Lectures, workshops and presentations are held at the campus of the London Business School.

Enterprise Studies and Advisory Services for the Creative Industries
A high proportion of our students express an interest in knowing how to go about starting their own publishing business. If not for now, at least for some point in the future. The course, the College and the University strongly supports the provision of some form of entreprenuership studies during the time students are completing their course. The Enterprise Planning elective held within the College provides some insights from experienced professionals and from new start-ups. The New Creative Ventures is another elective route, though it is open to the whole of the University on a competitive application basis. All students and alumni can access the many resources and additional speakers put on by the University's Enterprise Centre for the Creative Arts, which is located at LCC.
