International Summer School
The MA Publishing course at LCC is the only publishing course in the world that offers an international summer school.
Every year, the students undertake a week's travel to an international destination. The purpose of the trip is to learn about and understand the publishing in that country. Learning about how different ways of doing publishing helps us sharpen our perception of how we do publishing in our own country.
The trip involves visits to publishers, printers, booksellers and news trade outlets, and to publishing organisations. Visits are carefully planned to ensure that students get the maximum benefit from them. Time is also allocated to allow students to go sightseeing and visit places of great cultural interest. Professionally, culturally and socially, these trips are a great success and much enjoyed by our students.
In recent years we have visited
- Athens
- Barcelona
- Krakow and Warsaw
- Paris
- Moscow and St Petersburg
- Stuttgart
- Tallinn and Helsinki
- Leipzig
- Milan
We anticipate visiting Prague and Bratislava in May 2010.
International Summer School is entirely organised by the teaching staff, who also accompany the students. The cost of the Summer School is included in the quoted fees for the MA Publishing course. All travel, accommodation and meals' costs are covered, including the final dinner!

Post-study Worker opportunities in the UK for our International graduates
Increasingly, our publishing international students are taking advantage of the new provisions of the UK's government's Post-study Worker permit scheme to stay and work in the UK for up to two years after graduating. Some of our graduates use this scheme to extend their professional practice by taking up full-time or part-time paid work positions, or use the scheme to follow independent projects or entreprenuer interests to further their careers and future professional development in publishing. "You do not need to have a specific job offer, but you will need to pass a points-based assessment to be eligible to apply" according to the UK Border Agency.
The Post-study Worker permit scheme is operated by the UK Government's Home Office UK Border Agency.
Applications can be made when your masters is confirmed, or the certificate of your award is pending, which is usually after the first week of December, following the grading of your dissertation which is handed in for assessment at the end of September, or the beginning of October, at the end of the year you enrolled. Accordingly, it is advisable to ensure that your student visa, or necessary extension, allows for a sufficient period to enable you to process any application, if you plan to apply the Post-study Worker scheme while in the United Kingdom.
